The Symbiotes are an imaginary race of amorphous extraterrestrial parasites, and one of them gave rise to Venom. Initially, this one was not violent and ruthless like its kind: after its birth, in fact, it declared to the rest of its species that it wanted to create a collaborative bond with its host, taking only what was necessary to survive and giving it its knowledge and abilities, also leaving it full control (unlike its kind, who subdued the host and completely deprived them of their life force, killing them). Precisely because of this unusual behavior, the symbiote was considered crazy and exiled to Battleworld.

When the Arcane organized the Secret Wars, he chose the planet where the symbiote had been exiled as the battlefield and, after Spider-Man ruined his costume, he was sent to a room where there was a machine to replicate it and inadvertently freed the symbiote from the cage, which joined him as if it were a costume. The alien costume enhanced Spider-Man's physical abilities, in addition to granting him a stamina resistance close to invulnerability, a more effective healing factor, the ability to create tentacles if needed, and to produce and shoot webs even without the aid of his old web-shooters, making the Wall-Crawler practically unbeatable. Happy with this discovery, Peter Parker wore it for the rest of the Secret Wars.
