The main enemy, an evil wizard called Ganondorf (or Ganon, depending on the episode), determined to seize the mystical object called Triforce, spreads terror across the lands of Hyrule by invading them with his hordes of creatures and monsters and taking hostage Princess Zelda, heir to the throne of Hyrule. Standing against Ganondorf's wickedness is always Link, the hero chosen by the goddesses. However, some main series games cannot be represented by this plot: in several, Ganondorf is absent, such as in Majora's Mask or Phantom Hourglass, as he was already defeated in the predecessors of these games (respectively Ocarina of Time and The Wind Waker), while others, like Majora's Mask itself, are not set in Hyrule. The series' games seem to be set in the medieval era.
