Nineteen years have passed since the founding of the Galactic Empire. From the Imperial Palace on Coruscant, the evil Emperor has strengthened his power over the Galaxy as an absolute monarch, and his mysterious apprentice, Lord Darth Vader, follower of the dark side of the Force and head of the Imperial Starfleet, is engaged in crushing the last resistance.

However, the Empire has found a tenacious enemy in the Rebel Alliance, made up of senators, governments, and planetary armed forces from worlds still loyal to the Galactic Republic, which is growing stronger thanks to the leadership of Senator Mon Mothma and the diplomatic successes of the young Princess Leia Organa. After the princess's starship is discovered, Imperial soldiers storm inside where a battle breaks out with the Rebels who are slaughtered by the soldiers and later, from the smoke of the battle, Vader makes his first appearance and Princess Leia is captured by Imperial forces. Before the Imperial army soldiers conquer her starship, however, Leia manages to transmit a message into the memory of the small astromech droid C1-P8 who, accompanied by the protocol droid D-3BO, boards an escape pod and arrives on the scorching and desert Tatooine in search of Obi-Wan Kenobi, a Jedi knight.
