After the Battle of New York, Adrian Toomes leads a team of workers to clean up the city and recover alien objects after the battle, but their operations are interrupted by the Damage Control Department; furious at losing their jobs, Toomes and his men decide to keep the Chitauri technology in their possession and use it to create weapons to sell on the black market.

Eight years later, Peter Parker, following his encounter with the Avengers, resumes his studies at the "Midtown School of Science and Technology," eagerly awaiting his next mission. To focus on his superhero activities, Peter decides to leave the academic decathlon team. One evening, after defeating some criminals about to rob an ATM with Toomes' alien weapons, Peter returns home, where his best friend Ned discovers his secret identity. A few nights later, Peter discovers that Jackson Brice / Shocker and Herman Schultz, two of Toomes' accomplices, are selling some weapons to a local criminal, Aaron Davis: Peter intervenes but is stopped by Toomes, equipped with a winged suit; Stark, with a remotely controlled armor, comes to Peter's aid and orders him not to confront dangerous criminals like Toomes, who meanwhile accidentally kills Brice, and Schultz becomes the new Shocker.
