The story begins in 1919 in post-war Birmingham, where the population struggles to survive a particularly difficult period from an economic and social point of view. The story is set in the Small Heath district and revolves around the Shelby family, whose second son Thomas, a decorated veteran of the First World War, is also the boss of the gang called the "Peaky Blinders," named after the custom of hiding razor blades in the brim of their caps, so they could also be used as weapons. Strictly speaking, the term "Peaky Blinders" refers to the classic tapered shape of the cap's peak (literally "Peaky Blinders" means pointed visors).
