CHARACTER INFORMATION
Derry, Maine. On a rainy day in 1988, Bill Denbrough, a stuttering boy, gives Georgie, his younger brother, a paper boat. The child leaves the house alone, since Bill is sick, and decides to sail the boat along the neighborhood streets, but at a certain point it falls into a storm drain. While trying to retrieve it, Georgie sees a clown emerging from the drain, who introduces himself as Pennywise, the Dancing Clown. The mysterious entity invites the boy to come closer with the promise of returning the boat, then bites off his arm and drags him down into the sewers.
The following year, in June 1989, on the last day before school holidays, Bill and his friends (the exuberant Richie Tozier, the hypochondriac Eddie Kaspbrak, and the shy Jewish Stan Uris) clash with the bully Henry Bowers and his gang, who promise them a hellish summer. Bill, still obsessed with Georgie's disappearance and the resulting negligence from their parents about it, believes that his brother’s body might have ended up in a swampy area of town called Barren and convinces his friends to check it out, certain that Georgie might still be alive.
