Frame Material: Wood

It is the night before Christmas Eve: Gotham City is in turmoil as the public execution of the serial killer Julian Gregory Day, known as the Calendar Man, is about to take place at Blackgate Penitentiary. The criminal has been captured by Batman, but the police department is still unwilling to acknowledge the existence of this controversial figure. Suddenly, all networks interrupt their programs to broadcast extraordinary news: the penitentiary has literally been stormed by the men of the crime boss Black Mask, alias Roman Sionis, intent on freeing their leader and taking revenge on the corrupt police commissioner Gillian B. Loeb, who has been taken hostage and dragged into the prison. Batman bursts into Blackgate to shed light on the situation: Black Mask’s men have sown death and destruction everywhere, particularly the supervillain Killer Croc whom Sionis has hired as a bodyguard. The boss is furious with Commissioner Loeb because, despite having paid him and his men for years, he is now in jail and intends to make an example of him: thus he frees Calendar Man and throws the commissioner into the death row gas chamber, leaving him there to die. Batman cannot arrive in time to save the commissioner and launches into pursuit of the criminal; during the escape, the latter encounters a flying drone equipped with a camera that follows and spies on him and then destroys him. Batman finds it and removes its memory to analyze the content later, then reaches the prison roof where Black Mask manages to escape by helicopter. The Dark Knight tries to chase him, but the criminal throws Killer Croc at him; after a fierce fight Batman immobilizes the opponent, who lets slip a terrible piece of information: that very night Black Mask has put a fifty million dollar bounty on his head and eight assassins, himself included, have accepted the challenge. Batman’s days are therefore numbered: he wants to know more but the police, led by Captain James Gordon, find him and try to arrest him, but he manages to escape.
