CHARACTER INFORMATION

Michonne is a character from the comic book series The Walking Dead and is portrayed by Danai Gurira in the TV series of the same name.

Armed with a katana, her character is shrouded in a mysterious past. Michonne is first introduced in the final episode of the second season, hooded while dragging two armless and jawless zombies with chains, walking undisturbed in the middle of a herd of the undead. The two undead she escorts allow her to perfectly blend in with the rest of the group and are later revealed to be her boyfriend and best friend. In both the comic book and TV series, she plays a leading role in the conflict between the city of Woodbury led by the Governor, and as a member of the group at the prison (of which she was a member).

The character's story differs between the comic book series and the TV series, although in both cases Michonne is presented as an outsider who quickly proves to be a valuable asset to the group. In the comic, Michonne is a former lawyer, as well as divorced with two daughters. She forms a complicated relationship with Tyreese. Her conflict with the Governor is much more violent in the comics than in the TV series, where she suffers sexual violence before avenging herself by killing him. Michonne's mental state deteriorates due to many losses, bringing her closer to Rick Grimes who shares similar traumas.
