Sauron's Broken Blade is a weapon that appears in the universe of The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien, but it does not have a detailed description in the main books. However, the broken blade is closely linked to Sauron's past and his battle against the Valar and the Free Men of Middle-earth. Sauron's sword holds symbolic importance: it represents his dark power and dominion. The broken blade, in fact, is part of a legend that tells of the battle in which Elendil, the great king of Men, clashed with Sauron during the Second Age, specifically in the Battle of the Last Alliance. During this battle, Elendil managed to break Sauron's sword with his own, but this did not prevent him from being overwhelmed by Sauron's force. This event marks the moment when Sauron's sword is effectively destroyed, but his spirit remains alive, maintaining power over Mordor and influencing the events of the Third Age. In some interpretations, Sauron's Broken Blade can also be seen as a symbol of lost power and his inability to definitively destroy his enemies. When Isildur, Elendil's son, takes the One Ring, Sauron's destruction is not final and his spirit persists. In the film The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, directed by Peter Jackson, the broken blade is shown as a key element of Sauron's past story. After Sauron's sword is broken, it is highlighted as a symbol of the lost but not destroyed power of the Dark Lord.
