CHARACTER INFORMATION
Gandalf is a character from Arda, the imaginary universe fantasy created by the English writer J. R. R. Tolkien. He appears as a protagonist in the novels The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, and also appears in The Silmarillion and in Unfinished Tales. Within the writer’s corpus, Gandalf stands out as one of the members of the White Council, an assembly aimed at fighting the Shadow in Middle-earth, of which he later becomes leader and guide following the betrayal of Saruman. Gandalf’s role in The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings is that of a guide for the protagonists, respectively Bilbo and Frodo Baggins. In The Lord of the Rings, besides being one of the main bulwarks of resistance against the Dark Lord Sauron, Gandalf also becomes the leader of the Fellowship of the Ring.
The sword Glamdring was forged for the Elven Lord Turgon, of the Noldor lineage, in the First Age. It was lost for thousands of years until it was found by Gandalf.
