CHARACTER INFORMATION
Link (リンク Rinku?) is a fictional character from the video game series The Legend of Zelda. Besides appearing in more than twenty titles of the saga, Link is featured in the Super Smash Bros. series and in the Soulcalibur II version for Nintendo GameCube.Link, born in the Hylian tribe (humans with pointed ears so they can hear the voices of the gods), as shown in Ocarina of Time, appears in some episodes as a child, and in others as an adult (in Ocarina of Time he is both an adult and a child; in The Wind Waker he is a young boy). Link has never spoken during the games, leaving a veil of mystery around his character. Shigeru Miyamoto, his creator, explained that a silent Link would help players better identify with the protagonist. Throughout the saga, Link speaks only twice: in The Adventure of Link, where he finds a mirror under a table in a village house and says, "I found a mirror under the table," and in The Wind Waker, when he needs to be followed by a partner and shouts, "Come on!!".
The first Link in chronological order is the one from Skyward Sword; in order of release, it is the one from The Legend of Zelda.
The series presents several Links; each game features a different Link belonging to a different era. In every game, however, the hero wears a green tunic, a hood of the same color, brown boots, and a belt. His ears are pointed, similar to those of an elf. His hair is almost always blonde, except in the early games of the series where it was dark blonde, while his eyes are blue. Link also possesses a piece of the Triforce, the sacred relic around which the game's story revolves: there are three pieces, each corresponding to the virtue of its bearer. In Link's case, it is the Triforce of Courage.
From Ocarina of Time onward, a faithful companion of Link is introduced, the horse Epona, used to travel quickly across the kingdom of Hyrule. Link's recurring weapon in the saga is the Master Sword, an enchanted and legendary sword that banishes evil, forged by ancient sages. At the end of each game, Link places the sword back in its original pedestal—except in Majora's Mask—awaiting the Link of another era (and another game) to wield it. Thus, all Links share the fact of having held the same single sword, except for the one in Majora's Mask. Throughout the legend, all incarnations of Link acquire a special title. For example, the Link of the era of Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask is called the "Hero of Time," while the Link of the era of Wind Waker and Phantom Hourglass is called the "Hero of Wind," and in Twilight Princess he is called the "Chosen Hero of the Goddesses."
Outside the series, Link has appeared in various fighting games including Super Smash Bros. and all its sequels, as well as Soul Calibur II. The character of Link is also referenced in video games and cartoons outside the series.
