CHARACTER INFORMATION

A thousand years ago, the angel Raziel mixed his blood with that of humans, thus creating the Nephilim, half human and half angel who live in our world unseen by anyone. They are called Shadowhunters and obey the laws set forth in the Gray Book. Their task is to hunt down demons that bring ruin and destruction.

Clary Fairchild is a perfectly normal girl: a student at the Brooklyn Academy of Art, she lives with her mother Jocelyn (under the false surname "Fray") in their humble New York apartment and spends her days between art and her best friend Simon Lewis. However, on her eighteenth birthday, Clary spends the evening at the Pandemonium Club, where she witnesses a murder that no one else — except her — can see. When she returns home, she is attacked by a demon, but the boy she had seen earlier at the Club, Jace Wayland, saves her. Jace is a Shadowhunter, half human and half angel, who protects the Mundanes (people belonging to the human world) from demons, and when it is discovered that Clary is one of them too, Jace, along with fellow hunters Isabelle and Alec, helps her discover herself. Clary must quickly understand the potential within her in order to defeat Valentine Morgenstern, the most wanted man in the world of Shadowhunters and the Downworlders, who until recently was believed dead but now wants to obtain the Mortal Cup, a tool that will allow him to create new Shadowhunters who will help him exterminate the Downworlders, that is, the Seelie, vampires, werewolves, and warlocks.
