CHARACTER INFORMATION

The cyborg Genji Shimada has accepted the enhanced body he once rejected. In doing so, he discovered he possesses a higher degree of humanity.

The youngest son of the head of the Shimada ninja clan, Genji lived a life of luxury and privilege. Although he excelled in ninja discipline, he showed little interest in the family's illegal affairs, spending most of his time living as a playboy. Many within the clan considered the carefree Genji a dangerous obstacle, disapproving of the constant protection from their father. When the clan leader died, the elder brother, Hanzo, demanded that Genji take a more active role in their father's empire. Genji refused, enraging Hanzo and creating tension between the two brothers that led to a violent confrontation, leaving Genji hovering between life and death.

Hanzo thought he had killed his brother, but Genji was saved by Overwatch and the intervention of Dr. Angela Ziegler. The global security force saw potential in Genji as an ally in their fight against the Shimada clan. Overwatch offered him salvation and the reconstruction of his body in exchange for his help. Genji then underwent a lengthy process of cybernetic implants that enhanced his natural agility and speed, boosting his already exceptional ninja skills. Transformed into a living weapon, Genji devoted himself fully to destroying his family's criminal empire.

But as time passed, Genji felt a growing conflict within himself. Disgusted by the mechanical parts of his body, he could not accept what he had become. After completing his mission, he left Overwatch and began wandering in search of answers. He wandered for many years before meeting the Omnic monk Zenyatta, whose teachings he initially rejected. But Zenyatta did not give up and over time became his mentor. Under Zenyatta's guidance, Genji reconciled his dual identity as man and machine. He learned to accept that, despite his body being that of a cyborg, his soul was human and his new form a unique gift to be preserved.

Today, for the first time in his life, Genji is free. Even he cannot say where his path will lead him.
