The Wado Ichimonji is one of the 21 "O Wazamono" swords, meaning superior grade swords, and is considered one of the most powerful and prestigious swords in the One Piece universe. The sword originally belonged to Koushiro, Zoro's master and Kuina's father, a girl whom Zoro considered a rival and childhood friend. When Kuina tragically died, Zoro received the Wado Ichimonji as a memento of his promise to become the greatest swordsman in the world. From that moment, Zoro has used the Wado Ichimonji as one of his three swords in his unique fighting style, Santoryu (three-sword style), which involves wielding a sword in each hand and a third sword in his mouth. The Wado Ichimonji holds special significance for Zoro, as it represents his bond with Kuina and his determination to keep the promise he made to her alive.

The blade of the Wado Ichimonji is white, one of the distinctive features that sets this sword apart from Zoro's other swords, which are darker in color. Being one of the O Wazamono, the Wado Ichimonji is made from the highest quality materials, giving it extraordinary sharpness and durability, allowing Zoro to fight increasingly powerful enemies without the sword easily getting damaged. Throughout the series, Zoro maintains a particular devotion to this sword, as shown in several situations where the sword is at risk of being damaged or destroyed. His loyalty to it is a crucial part of his warrior identity. The Wado Ichimonji is used in many of Zoro's most epic battles and has been central to many of his most powerful moves. It is essential in fights where Zoro needs a precise and powerful weapon. The combination of Zoro's three swords (Wado Ichimonji, Sandai Kitetsu, and Shusui) makes him one of the most formidable fighters in One Piece.
