INFORMATION ABOUT THE CHARACTER

Saber is like the other Servants a legendary hero. In her past life, her real name was Arturia Pendragon (the female version of the legendary King Arthur), who pulled the famous sacred sword Excalibur from a stone, a sword that only someone worthy of becoming king could extract. In the anime, based on the "Feel" scenario, she appears at the end of the second episode when Shirō comes face to face with the servant Lancer. She is unintentionally summoned by Shirō thanks to a connection even the boy is unaware of: the sheath of Excalibur, placed inside his body by his father to save him from the fire caused in the previous Holy Grail War. The release of the Heiken of Saber's sword occurs simply by calling its name, after which the sword unleashes all its power towards the target, consuming a great amount of magic energy from Saber. As soon as she is summoned, she attacks Lancer and defeats him, severely injures Archer, and when she was about to finish Rin, she is stopped only by Shirō's intervention. During the fight with Berserker, Saber is seriously wounded, and Shirō protects her, getting gravely injured himself. Rin then decides to form an alliance with Saber and Shirō and to teach the boy everything about the war since it was impossible for the two of them to survive on their own with Archer still recovering and Saber with incomplete summoning. Even without Shirō's permission, Saber decides to go to the Ryūdō temple where she fights the Servant Assassin. She rushes to Shirō's aid when he is thrown out of a window by Rider and confronts her in battle. When Rider draws her ace up her sleeve, Pegasus, Saber is forced to resort to her "Noble Phantasm" Excalibur, with which she eliminates Rider in a single blow.

Not always at ease due to an illness that had afflicted her since she was a girl (not specified much in the anime), in fact her body always showed signs of weakness as it was very fragile, leading to the belief that her very bones and muscles were weakened. She gave no indication of this, as if she wanted to keep it to herself so as not to cause worry due to the excessive protection she received from Shirō. After a while, she begins to grow fond of him, and when she is kidnapped by Ilya, she rushes to his aid along with Rin and Archer. They manage to free the boy but must escape from Berserker; Archer sacrifices himself to let them escape. Saber is in precarious condition, so Rin decides that the only way to recharge her mana is to have her engage in sexual intercourse with her Master Shirō. Recharged, she manages to hold her own against Berserker but cannot kill him; only Shirō’s Trace-On, which replicates Excalibur by creating Caliburn, can annihilate him. In the following days, Saber and Shirō open up more and more to each other and have a second sexual encounter the night before the final battle. During their fight with Gilgamesh, they barely survive, and while fleeing, they receive unexpected help from Lancer. Shirō decides to return the "Noble Phantasm" Avalon in his possession to Saber, who then eliminates Gilgamesh while Shirō deals with Kirei Kotomine. With no opponents left, Saber has doubts about whether it is necessary to destroy the Holy Grail, and Shirō explains that she must accept her life as it has been without wishing to change it. Comforted by these words, she orders her Master to destroy it. Before disappearing forever, she finally has the strength to declare her love for Shirō.

Returned to her own time, she lies mortally wounded after the clash with Mordred and tells Sir Bedivere about the wonderful dream she had. When Bedivere is about to go seek help, she stops him, telling him to throw Excalibur into the lake to Vivian. Arturia slowly falls asleep but no longer has regrets in life thanks to the happy days of love spent with Shirō. Sir Bedivere returns from his mission at the lake and when he sees Arturia close her eyes, he utters the final words of the anime: "Do you behold... King Arthur... the continuation to your dream?".

The only ending where Saber manages to survive is the "good ending" of the Unlimited Blade Works scenario, where she remains in Rin's service as her Servant. It should be noted that in this scenario the female protagonist is Rin, and she is the one who falls in love with Shirō, whom she takes with her to the Mage Association.

In the PS2 version, when all the endings are completed, an extra ending is unlocked in which Shirō wakes up in a meadow and is greeted by Saber, who leads him to the heavenly fields of Avalon to spend eternity together.

In the video game Fate/tiger colosseum, there is an additional version of Saber: Lyon Saber. She is dressed in a lion cosplay and fights using a piece of meat as a weapon. Another version of Saber is Lily Saber, which differs in her outfit.

In August 2006, TYPE-MOON published a book titled "Character Material" in which preliminary drawings of the work are featured, including a male version of Saber named Saver With green eyes and blonde hair. In these drawings, a female version of Shirō also appears.
