CHARACTER INFORMATION

Knight Artorias, often also known by the nickname Abysswalker, is a mandatory boss in the Artorias of the Abyss DLC of Dark Souls.
Through the DLC of the first chapter, Prepare To Die, the story of Artorias and the city of Oolacile, which is about to be swallowed by the abyss, is partially and fragmentarily told. The Lord of Cinder Gwyn had four prodigious knights by his side: Ornstein the dragon slayer, Ciaran the assassin, member of the Lord's blades, Gough the leader of the archers, and finally Artorias the Abysswalker, the only one capable of crossing the depths of the abyss. Each knight carried a ring given by Gwyn, symbolizing their animalistic representations. Artorias was the bearer of the wolf ring, a symbol of his indomitable iron will and invincibility with his famous greatsword.
Artorias was considered the most skilled; his equipment consisted of a huge greatsword in his left hand, while in his right the knight carried a massive shield imbued with magic. He thus decided to face the darkness, to decimate its servants, the so-called darkwraiths, the creatures he hated most in the world. The skilled warrior ventured into New Londo, a place strongly affected by darkness where he made a pact with the powerful entities present, who gave him a ring that protected him from the snares and corruption of darkness; without it, it was impossible to enter the abyss. A half-truth, as the brave adventurer, as he progressed through the depths of darkness, was gradually corrupted by it, unable to do anything to counter it. We can also understand this from his greatsword, mighty and shining at first, but as its owner continues his path, it becomes increasingly corrupted, like a clock near Artorias' eyes, a warning: the closer he got to the depths, the more he would lose himself and his mission.
