CHARACTER INFORMATION

Rin Okumura is 15 years old and is the protagonist of Blue Exorcist. He is the Son of Satan and a human woman, as well as the heir to his father's supernatural powers; these were sealed at birth in a "demon-subduing" sword called Kurikara by his adoptive guardian, Shiro Fujimoto: this allowed him to live as a human until that time. Rin discovers his true identity after the sword can no longer contain the blue flames inherited from Satan, triggering a series of events that lead to the death of his adoptive father at the hands of Satan himself, who then tries to bring Rin back with him to the demon world. The Chief Exorcist Mephisto Pheles confronts Rin at the end of Shiro's funeral along with several of his colleagues, putting the boy before a radical choice: either kill them or die himself. Instead, Rin asks the man to allow him to become an Exorcist, an idea that seems to amuse Mephisto greatly. The boy is accepted and personally enrolled by Mephisto at the True Cross Academy, a school for Exorcists, where he pursues his goal of following in Shiro's footsteps and ultimately defeating Satan.
