Kenpachi Zaraki is the captain of the 11th Division of the Gotei 13. His lieutenant is Yachiru Kusajishi. Tall and with a lean, imposing physique, Kenpachi has the left side of his face marked by a long, thin scar. He is violent and quarrelsome, but respects his own code of honor: he is always fiercely loyal to his subordinates, even if this sometimes involves some risk, and he refuses to kill an opponent who has been completely defeated. Unlike other Shinigami, Zaraki does not fight because he feels the duty to eliminate Hollows, but for the simple pleasure that battle brings him: he is constantly searching for opponents capable of facing him and challenging him, and precisely for this reason, he deliberately puts himself at a disadvantage. Kenpachi is the only captain who does not know the name of his own Zanpakutō, and consequently was unable to use either the Shikai or the Bankai. At the end of the fight with Ichigo, despite the disinterest he had shown until then in the ability to "fight alongside his own sword," he tries to call it, but without success, as he is unable to truly understand his own power. In its sealed form, the sword looks like an unusually long katana, with a completely blunt blade damaged in several spots, and a guard whose design resembles a bone. The white hilt and sheath are wrapped in bandages.
