INFORMATION ABOUT THE CHARACTER

Alita is a young cyborg girl (whose brain has been installed inside a robotic body) with no memory.

The events take place in the "Scrapyard City," a gigantic metropolis overshadowed by Salem, the fabulous city suspended among the clouds and shaped like a funnel that dumps waste below.

In this scrapyard, a cyber-doctor, Daisuke Ido, finds the protagonist among the waste (a scene probably inspired by the beginning of the film Hardware - Dead Metal by Richard Stanley); her body has suffered very severe structural damage, while her brain, although in a state of "stasis," is still intact. The cyber-doctor then decides to repair her, give her a new body and a provisional new name: Alita, as she will only later remember being called Yoko.
