Considered one of the most beautiful girls in school (so much so that Haruhi calls her "moe" the first time she introduces her to Kyon), Mikuru is extremely popular among the boys, although she remains terribly shy and easily embarrassed and claims to have never had a boyfriend. Before being forced to join the SOS Brigade, she was a member of the calligraphy club. Her best friend is the bubbly Tsuruya, her classmate: both are one year older than Kyon and Haruhi, but Mikuru appears younger physically. Unlike Haruhi and Yuki, Mikuru is not particularly skilled in sports.
