Shura is the Gold Saint of Capricorn and, before the events of the series, is tasked with killing the Sagittarius counterpart Aiolos, who is falsely accused of being a traitor and responsible for the attempted assassination of the goddess Athena by the High Priest.
Although he is one of the three Gold Saints aware of the High Priest's evil (the other two are Death Mask of Cancer and Aphrodite of Pisces), Shura still swears loyalty to him and, thirteen years after the clash with Aiolos, returns to the Grand Temple to preside over the tenth house and hinder the Bronze Saints: on this occasion, he engages in a fierce battle with Shiryu who, at the end of an exhausting fight, decides to use his most powerful attack (the Rozan Koryuha) to take both himself and the Gold Saint into outer space and disappear together. During the ascent to the sky, struck by the young man's courage, Shura realizes his mistakes and decides to save his opponent's life; thus, not only does he save Shiryu by having him wear his armor to bring him back to Earth, but he also gifts him Excalibur, as will be revealed during the battle between Shiryu and Krishna of Chrysaor.
Sometime later, a new holy war breaks out between Athena and Hades, and the latter resurrects Shura, Shion of Aries, Saga of Gemini, Camus of Aquarius, Death Mask of Cancer, and Aphrodite of Pisces, recruiting them into his army of Specters with the mission to kill the goddess. Although they initially seem to have sided with Hades, Shura and the others are only pretending to obey the God of the Underworld because their true goal is to obtain Athena's sacrifice and awaken the Goddess's God Cloth. After a grueling climb through the Twelve Houses, in which they seemingly kill Virgo Shaka with the Athena Exclamation, Shura, Saga, and Camus reach Athena: the Goddess, having understood her subordinates' true intentions, decides to commit suicide with her own hands to reach the Underworld alive, so she can personally challenge Hades. Shortly after, Shura, along with Saga and Camus, returns to the Underworld due to the expiration of the twelve provisional hours of life granted by Hades, but reappears in the Giudecca, together with all the other Gold Saints, sacrificing himself to destroy the immense Wall of Tears and allow Shiryu and the other Bronze Saints to reach Athena in Elysium.
