Yamato is the daughter of Kaido, whom she is completely opposed to. She has eaten the Mythical Zoan Dog Dog Fruit, Model Ookuchi no Makami (Inu Inu no Mi, Model Ōkuchi no Makami), which allows her to transform into the eponymous Japanese mythical wolf. As a child, she was strongly influenced by the story and deeds of Kozuki Oden and his valiant death, as well as the discovery of his memories, which convinced her to take upon herself the spiritual legacy of the legendary daimyō, beginning to impersonate him to the point of defining herself as a man to fully identify with him. Because of her idolization of Oden and hatred toward her father, she was fitted with explosive handcuffs that kept her imprisoned on Onigashima until her encounter, twenty years later, with Monkey D. Luffy. Allied with him (also due to having known his brother Portuguese D. Ace in the past) to save Kozuki Momonosuke, she definitively rebels against Kaido and his crew, even fighting him to cover Luffy’s back, who was temporarily neutralized by the Emperor. Afterwards, she supports Momonosuke in his attempt to prevent Onigashima from crashing onto the Flower Capital; after the defeat of Kaido and Big Mom, she presents her proposal to join Luffy’s crew to his companions, only to withdraw it following the attack of Admiral Ryokugyu, deciding to stay in Wano to help Momonosuke protect it from invaders.
