Kuzan, also known as Aokiji, was an admiral of the Navy. He was recommended by Sengoku as fleet admiral after the latter's resignation; however, after being defeated by Sakazuki, he left the Navy and joined the Blackbeard Pirates. As an admiral, Aokiji had authority over a vast number of subordinates and held the second highest rank in the Navy. He also had the right to call a Buster Call on any island he considered a threat to the World Government and could grant this privilege to government agents who did not possess such power. His abilities were such that Sengoku suggested to Kong to promote him to fleet admiral. However, after leaving the Navy, he lost these privileges. A notable example of his reputation is the fact that Nico Robin, as a consequence of her childhood trauma, completely panics whenever an admiral is nearby, although she usually remains calm even in the most critical situations. Even Sauron, a former Navy vice admiral, stated before being easily defeated by Aokiji that the marine was extraordinarily powerful, even though at the time he had not yet held the role of admiral.
