When she was little, Hinata was always alone because of her powerful clan, the Hyuga Clan. She fell in love with Naruto when he tried to save her from some bullies, and from that day on, she blushed every time she saw him. When Naruto gives a brief introduction at the beginning of the initial selection for the Chunin exam where he introduces his classmates, he describes Hinata as a shy, dark, introverted girl who always looks away.
He gradually notices how kind Hinata is: she allows Naruto to copy her test during the first trial and gives him an ointment during the preliminaries for the third trial. In both situations, she shows a kindness almost uncommon in the hostile context of the Chunin exams.
Although Naruto is unaware of what Hinata feels for him, his regard for her grows more and more.
