NARUTO SHIPPUDEN - Gaara - Colosseum (Banpresto)

Gaara, also known as "Gaara of the Desert," is a character from the anime and manga series Naruto, written and illustrated by Masashi Kishimoto.

In the first part of the story, he is one of the main antagonists, while in the second part—after redeeming himself with the help of the protagonist—he becomes the Fifth Kazekage of the Sand Village.

Gaara is a very quiet and thoughtful boy who is ostracized by everyone because the villagers see the Shukaku Demon sealed within him as a curse: his childhood thus bears many similarities to Naruto's, although Gaara has always terrified his peers because of his powers. The only person he had a relationship with was his uncle Yashamaru; however, he betrays his trust by trying to kill him and then revealing that he never cared for him and had always hated him because his birth caused the death of his sister, who also hated him because his birth would have killed her, and that the sand protecting him is nothing but the power of the Shukaku Demon which, thanks to a curse from his mother, was meant to protect him until he would destroy himself and the entire village. After realizing that no one had ever loved or would ever love him, Gaara used his sand to engrave a scar on his forehead resembling the kanji for "Love," to remind himself that he would always be "an Asura (that is, a demon) who loves only himself." From that moment on, taking the lives of others, just as they had deprived him of love, became the only action that made him feel alive and gave him a reason to live.

After being defeated by Naruto, Gaara understands his mistakes and decides to be accepted by the villagers by becoming the new Kazekage: he thus develops a kind and reliable nature, which allows him to overcome the initial distrust of his fellow citizens and greatly improves his relationship with his siblings Kankuro and Temari.
