A sixteen-year-old boy (fourteen at his debut), with green eyes and green hair. He has a shy personality and gets scared very easily due to having been a victim of bullying, but he has a good heart and a strong sense of altruism and justice. He has good analytical skills and, being passionate about heroes, he knows them well... Quirk and their abilities on the field in minute detail. He is one of the few people born without a Quirk, which is why he is repeatedly mocked with the nickname Deku. He is very passionate about heroes, diligently taking notes on their powers and tactics, observing every fight he happens to witness. Despite lacking a specialty, he still tried to become a hero until he befriended the peace paladin All Might, who takes him under his wing. All Might reveals a secret to him: he, the greatest superhero in the world and the "Symbol of Peace," possesses a special Quirk called: One For All; which unites the strength of hundreds of men into a single body, granting it extraordinary physical abilities. This ability is not innate but is transferred from one person to another, becoming even stronger in the process: in fact, All Might was once a person without powers until one day the previous holder of One For All passed it on to him so that he could continue to protect the world. Midoriya was therefore chosen by him as his successor. The initial drawback of the Quirk is that if the body is not hardened enough, its power could kill its new bearer, so All Might subjected Midoriya to grueling training to strengthen him: after about ten months of exhausting training, All Might finally passes his power to Midoriya, his body having become strong enough to withstand it. After Uraraka changes its meaning, he will choose his hero name based on his nickname: Deku. Moreover, driven by having succeeded in entering U.A. High School and by his determination to become a hero, Midoriya begins to gain an increasing self-awareness which over time has led him to set aside his cowardice, even managing on one occasion to stand up to Bakugo. In him, One For All manifests as veins (depicted as crimson in the anime) that appear on the limb or part of the body where the Quirk is activated or, when Midoriya uses the... Full Cowl, like electric discharges (bright and Persian green in the anime) that the boy emits from his body; when used at 100% throughout the body, Deku begins to glow slightly, the veins become more extensive and pronounced, while trails of energy manifest from Midoriya's eyes and eye sockets. The strength unleashed by his Quirk is still too much for his body to handle if used fully: the maximum power he can use so far without breaking his limbs is 20%, although using it at this level still causes him intense pain due to muscle tension. Beyond this limit, Midoriya experiences repercussions on his body and has often been forced to use 100% of his powers, which has led to multiple broken arms and legs (in fact, his right arm was at risk of permanent damage for a certain period precisely because of the consequences of using One For All at 100%, and it is marked by numerous scars). As seen against Muscular, when driven by an adrenaline rush, Midoriya can surpass 100% and unleash devastating blows, with consequently even heavier repercussions on his body. Later, taking inspiration from Iida, he develops a fighting style known as Shoot Style, focused on the use of One For All particularly in the legs: this modification makes Izuku even more powerful and faster, as the muscles of the lower limbs are naturally stronger than those of the upper limbs. Izuku is the only holder of One For All who has managed to interact with its previous users: in fact, One For All draws strength from those who have possessed it, and this peculiarity has meant that, within the depths of the Quirk, part of the consciousness of Izuku's predecessors has survived along with their power. During training battles between 1-A and 1-B, Izuku began to lose control of One For All, manifesting dark tentacles from his arms and causing chaos: on that occasion, thanks also to the help of Hitoshi, one of the predecessors managed to communicate with Izuku, revealing to him that this is actually his Quirk called Black whip, which allows the user to emit from their arms and control tentacles of dark energy, and is linked to anger and the will to capture someone or something; moreover, the unknown predecessor informs Izuku that within One For All there also lie dormant five other Quirks belonging to previous holders, and that eventually they will manifest as well.
The last character of his/her name In Japanese, it can also be pronounced the same way as "nine.", with reference to the fact that he is the ninth bearer of One For All.
