Meruem is the king of the Chimera Ants, belonging to the Nen category of specialization that allows him to enhance himself by eating other Nen users and thus absorbing their aura. He is the strongest character to have appeared so far, so much so that Netero sacrificed himself in an attempt to defeat him. He possesses great intelligence; his main hobbies are strategy games, and he was only defeated in Gung-Gi by Komugi, who unknowingly earned his protection. Following the attack on the castle by Netero and Zeno Zaoldyeck, the latter's Starry Dragon Squad accidentally injures Komugi: the king entrusts her to Neferpitou's care and, after escaping thanks to Zeno's Dragon Head, engages in battle with the Hunter Association chairman.
