He often behaves like a real coward: when he discovers that Vegeta has reached Namek, he will ask Gohan to return to Earth, receiving a negative response. The same thing happens during the androids arc, when Krillin reveals he wants to withdraw from the fight, having realized the opponents' power. However, in critical situations, he is ready to sacrifice his own life to fight threats and help his friends; for example, he offers to fight together with Goku against Radish, fully aware of his inferiority and the impossibility of being resurrected again, and faces Frieza in his second form helping Gohan. Over time, he gains experience that gives him excellent analytical skills in judging other fighters, which is highlighted during the first battle between Cell and Vegeta, as he immediately understood that the latter had no chance of defeating his opponent, a prediction that indeed came true.

In Dragon Ball Super, he becomes a police officer and fights city crime. He had chosen to definitively abandon martial arts, but later decides to return to fighting in view of the Tournament of Power. In a recurring gag, the God of Destruction Beerus always mispronounces his name.

The character also appears in the series Dragon Ball GT, where he does not have a leading role and is also portrayed as an older man with gray hair, who has completely abandoned martial arts.
