DIGIMON - MetalGarurumon & Ishida Yamato - Precious G.E.M. (MegaHouse)
Digimon are born from special eggs called "Digi-eggs." In the English iteration, there is another type of digi-egg that can be used to allow a Digimon to digivolve, that is, to transform. This second type of digi-egg is called "Digimental" in Japanese. Through "Digivolution," Digimon are able to become more powerful and change their appearance. However, the effect of Digivolution is not permanent for the Digimon companions of the main characters in the anime; in fact, Digimon that have digivolved most of the time will revert to their previous form after a battle or if they are too tired or badly injured to continue. Some Digimon can be considered wild and are therefore fierce. Most of them, however, stand out for their intelligence and mastery of human language. All Digimon are able to digivolve autonomously, but the use of the Digivice by their human partners makes it much easier and achievable in a shorter time. In some cases, such as in the first season, the DigiDestined (also known as the "chosen children") must find special items like Digi-Medals and Digi-Stones to allow their Digimon to reach new stages of Digivolution such as the "ultimate" and "mega" levels.
The first Digimon anime introduces the life cycle of Digimon: they age in a process similar to that of living organisms, but they never die from natural causes because they are made of reconfigurable data. Any Digimon that suffers a fatal blow will dissolve into infinitesimal bits of data. The data will then automatically recombine and form a Digi-egg, which will hatch when incubated properly, and the said Digimon will begin its life cycle anew. Digimon reincarnated in this way sometimes retain some or all of the memories of their previous life, like Wormmon in Digimon Adventure 02. In any case, if the data of a Digimon is completely destroyed, it will die, as with Frigimon and other Digimon in Digimon Savers.
