Shoto has a cold and detached character, which stems from the harsh upbringing given to him by his Father. Having been accustomed to fighting since he was little, he manages to remain calm and composed while battling even true Villains, and during fights, although he is quite brutal, he shows that he is firmly rooted in the ethics of heroism, only wishing to subdue his enemies without wanting to kill them. After the events of the Sports Festival, Shoto continues to maintain his detached attitude; however, he is slowly becoming more sociable, occasionally smiling and starting to make a few jokes.
Shoto harbors a deep hatred towards his fire power, since, in his eyes, it symbolizes his father's cruelty towards him and his mother and also the reason for his birth, that is, to become a tool capable of surpassing All Might, a fate that the boy despises. Because of this, Shoto has decided to rely solely on his ice power and never to use fire in combat, even going so far as to cover the left side of his body with ice in his first Hero costume to symbolize rebellion against his father and his own fate.
During the battle with Izuku at the Sports Festival, the boy's speech brings back his mother's words, and for the first time, Shoto uses fire in battle. After the fight, Shoto feels conflicted about using his left side; however, after reconciling with his mother, Shoto came to accept his fire power, recognizing it as his own and not inherited from his father, and now he uses it in battle without hesitation.
