The story tells the adventures of Gon Freecss, a young boy who wants to become a hunter to follow in his father's footsteps. Hunters are figures of particular prestige within society, and to become one, it is necessary to pass a unique and very tough exam, during which Gon will meet many other aspiring hunters and, with some of them, particularly Leorio, Kurapika, and Killua, will form a strong bond of friendship that will continue even after the exam. Throughout their adventures, Gon and the other hunters will have the opportunity to continually sharpen their skills, facing increasingly stronger enemies, while Gon continues the search for his father Ging.
